Sometimes, an allowance just isn’t enough for young teenagers. They need more money to watch the latest movies, to buy the latest DVDs, take their girl/boyfriend out for a dinner, or for maintaining their car. A few others may even need money to support their college education. These days, there are a number of options available for students to earn money. Many students take up a part time job at fast-food restaurants, coffee shops, theaters and malls to meet their requirements. The more needy students even work full time and attend evening colleges.

Government departments and nonprofit organizations such as city parks, recreation departments, zoos, and museums recruit students on part time basis. Many agencies and organizations get special grants to hire teenagers and college students in the summer. Students must be always on the lookout for such summer jobs. Sometimes, recruitment may begin as early as February or March. It is advisable to provide a couple of references if possible.

A student must try all possible sources to get a good job. If need arises, a student can post information on a website detailing jobs that he is good at, such as lawn care, babysitting or petsitting. Once a job is completed, a student must always ask the employer for a reference letter that would help him in his next assignment.

Most adults can perform yard work on their own. However, some may prefer to get it done from young students and teenagers due to tight schedules or physical incapability. Pulling weeds or mowing grass is a very easy way to earn some fast cash.

During the hot summers, students can earn money by setting up a lemonade stand. Along with lemonade, students can sell a few other cool drinks as well.

Most people like to have a clean car, but do not like to take the pain of washing it. This offers a great opportunity for students to make money in the summer vacations. Pairing up with a friend and working as a team might make the whole ordeal more interesting.

While money isn’t everything in life, life is a lot more manageable with money. Not only adults, even kids, look for different ways to make money. Some do odd jobs, while others start their own business. Some kids may require money to support their education, while others may require it to maintain their car. A lot of children manage to raise a significant amount by putting aside a part of their pocket money and cash gifts. However, this cannot be a permanent source of obtaining money consistently. Kids may offer to work part time or do small jobs to earn money.

There are stringent Federal and State laws to put a stop to child labor practices and to protect children’s rights. Federal law allows kids to work in offices or retail outlets. Kids are also allowed to work in farms as long as the work is non-hazardous. Some kids deliver newspapers in the morning and then attend schools.

Talented kids may opt for acting, dancing or modeling. Another interesting option for kids is to handle clerical work in small offices. Kids are seen everywhere working as sales boys/salesgirls in departmental stores.

Older kids may consider baby-sitting and pet sitting to earn money. Smaller kids may opt for extra jobs around the house such as washing cars, cutting grass or painting fences.

Parents themselves can delegate small tasks to their children and pay them for doing so. Delivering phone directories is one such job that can be done with the help of kids.

Kids can make money and acquire invaluable business experience by starting their own businesses. Such businesses may include providing a service, make their own product or sell someone else’s goods.

Many kids excel in academics, while some are good at sports. They can choose the option of teaching young children in their respective fields. A number of part-time and summer jobs are available on the Internet and local newspapers.
